Be aware of non UL listed led light bulbs

Filed under: Led Light Bulbs — @ 5:58 pm

The other day when I was looking around at different products on ebay.com, I was absolutely horrified at looking at sellers on Ebay selling non UL listed led light bulbs. I can not stress this point enough to people, if you break UL listing or put a non UL listed light bulb in your home and your home burns down, the fire investigator finds the non UL listed bulb and puts it in his fire report, your insurance company will not cover the loss in 90% of the cases!  Being in the electrical business for years I have heard of this happening.  Could you really afford to negate your home owners insurance policy potentially costing you hundreds of thousands of dollars?  All to save a few bucks on the initial purchase its not worth the risk.

Here are a few good tips on purchasing led light bulbs.

1. Never buy direct from an overseas seller unless you are a professional in the business.

2. Look for the advertisement stating UL listing.

3. When you receive the bulb, it should have UL listed on the bulb itself. Look on your average household light bulb you have in your house and you will find it.

4. Know the company your purchasing led light bulbs from.

5. A reputable company will have a manufacturers warranty for their light bulbs. All of the non UL listed bulb will not have a manufacturers warranty. Look for a warranty between 3-5 years.

6. If the manufacturer is not stated in the advertisement, ask who the manufacturer is and ask for their website.  I do not know of any reputable manufacturers who do not have good websites with detailed specifications listed out.

7. Last but not least, ask the experts before you purchase.  Shop around and make some phone calls. Ask for light output information. If they can not provide it, do not buy it because you will more than likely not be happy.

8. Ask about a return policy.

If you would like to look commercial grade led light bulbs on our website to compare quality please feel free to do so.
